BIG ART 2024

At the former Slotervaart Ziekenhuis in Amsterdam Nieuw - West, BIG ART's tenth edition took place.

Through a mural covering a wall's front side as well as a hidden backroom around the corner, I depicted my concept of the human relationship with the body. Using the history of this stripped-down section of the building, I portrayed bodies in the span between birth and 'death. The original remains of paint and decay in the walls served as the starting point of the composition.

Mostly, I was grabbed by the idea of the body as a tool to explore life, like a new born trying to walk the surface earth, using all means possible to make any progress.

Four enlarged line drawings convey a sense of discovery and exploration, capturing humanity's enduring struggle with the physical self.

The backroom's final picture in atomic red, depicted a figure with huge ears- as if from an old man- lying seductively- possibly pregnant- staring at you through baby eyes. All life stages in One.
